Deep within the forest the land becomes jagged and broken, ferns cover the ground, gentle drops of water dripping slowly off their verdant leaves from the rains the night before. Crystals protrude from the eroded lands where large roots have grown, or what seams more likely have been magically placed to allow passage, almost like man made bridges.

A giant tree stands before you, a large jagged hole leading deeper into it’s interior. You follow a staircase worn into the wood and are lead into the heart of the tree where a monumental nest made from sticks and stones is surrounded by large crystals.

Free Multi-Level Battlemap – Village Gatehouse

Weddings between nobles children are more often then not carried out for political ends, building alliances and so forth. You’ve been contacted by a noble girl in her late teens, she is to be married to a man she does not love and she has refused to be forced into a political marriage by her mother.

As such she has put a plan in place for you to come rescue her in three days from her temporary quarters where she is going to be held until the marriage, this will be in the gatehouse’s second floor. The gatehouse is maned by close to a dozen guards. Some of the guards can potentially be lured away from the gatehouse by making a scene elsewhere in the village.

Through whatever means, when you make it to the noble girls quarters you find her with a man, the man she is to be wed. She explains that they’ve spent the last couple of days together and she now believes this man to be virtuous, brave and kind and as such has agreed to go through with the marriage, for her people and for herself. She confesses that she has been rash in her judgments and apologies profusely to you before begging you leave.

If any of the guards have been killed getting to the noble girl, you may have to flee the village.

The city of Azraga’ool was once a glorious sight of dwarven engineering and art, a bustling metropolis of busy folk, trading intricate devices, mountain forged weapons and ceramic urns.

The heat that welled up from within the mountain gave lifeblood to the dwarves and powered their city of stream and stone. They use to worship me, but over time they forgot, forgot that what I was giving them was a gift and not something for them to simply take as much as they wanted. They got greedy and wanted more than their share, they dug deeper and deeper into the mountain, into my heart, took what they wanted and doomed themselves.

The city creaked, strained and crumbled, under the collapse of my will, my blood poured from these cracks burning thousands alive and blackening the ground and walls, Filling the air with foul sulfur and ash.

And the one responsible for this, he watches till this day on his blackened throne, his skin hardened stone, fissures of heat underneath flesh fighting to escape his broken body. He’s gathered minions over the years, those whom would worship him as some kind of god… just like I was once worshiped. But not now, my wounds lay bare in the city and I am so very weak. I sleep and dream, perhaps one day those pure of soul will return my power to the mountain’s heart and stop this creature…

Within the swamp of Blackmire lies the personal hold of the orc war chief Agarnoth. Built into a shallow cave on the outskirts of the orcish village of the Skulltakers the war chief uses this hold for feasts, sacrifices and meetings most foul.

Regional spies have come back with reports that the war chief is holding a grand feast with leaders from the other orcish tribes soon, he intends to unite them under his banner, destroy the nearby human settlement and then push down further into the human kingdom with the united war band.

You can not let this happen, whether through poisoning food, diplomacy, or brute force you must stop this meeting and if that means killing everyone, so be it!

You’ve been approached by the last member of a secret order to the god of knowledge, once upon a time the order would collect ancient and forbidden artifacts and scrolls to keep this knowledge safe and away from prying eyes. However three years ago the order was betrayed by a young member who sought more for himself, he gave the dread pirate the location of the temple in exchange for one of the artifacts the temple held.

And so their temple was raided by the dread pirate and his men. It left the temple burned to the ground and almost all of the cult dead. The last member has spent the last three years in search of this traitor and he has now found him.

He hides in the dread pirate’s hold, a small cavern off the coast, and now is the perfect chance to take his revenge and hopefully recover some of the artifacts, but he needs your help. The dread pirate and most of his crew are out raiding the southern coast and they’ve left their hold mostly unguarded but for a handful of pirates, his “pet” sea serpent and the traitor who after having studied many of the artifacts over the last couple of years has become a powerful but tainted wizard.

The guard captain of the city watch has had it, after finally capturing and executing the men behind much of the cities organized crime you would have expected the crime rate to go down, however it’s gone up, robberies and stabbings are on the rise and it seems to be spreading from the slums.

You’ve been tasked to track down the source of this new crime wave from within the slums and put an end to it. The guards can’t be seen in the area without causing more trouble and the slumfolk refuse talk to them, so it’s up to you.

After some sleuthing you find your way to the old bath house, It’s being run by an old adversary of the organized crime gang. With them all gone he’s had free reign over the cities slums and he’s expanding fast!

The bathhouse has guards at the front door and more criminals inside using the baths while beautiful scantily clad women tend to their every need. The new boss is having a meeting in his quarters with the local slum’s communities leaders, convincing them that the city’s lords and ladies care not for them and that all he wants to do is bring all of the slums together to start a revolution and take what is rightful theirs from those that have taken from them.

If confronted, he will try to escape via the back entrance, taking a hostage if he must. If a hostage is killed in the scuffle you might just end up causing a revolt from the slumfolk yourselves but this mans charisma makes him dangerous and if left alive he may just bring down this entire city!

Free TTRPG Battlemap – Forest Ambush

When you reach a crossroad, you find the bodies of almost a dozen caravan guards bloodied and broken among the mossy forest ground. More bodies and debris block the road to the east.

Walking among them are a group of thin and nervous men, picking through the remains, and pocketing what loose weapons and coins they can find. If approached, they’ll inform you that they had nothing to do with the slaughter—they’re only putting the dead men’s assets to better use, as they won’t be needing them anymore.

In truth, these men are indirectly responsible for the death of these guards, and the destruction of the trade caravan. They’ve been providing information to local bandits about caravan schedules and assets, in return for what the guards—living or dead—have on them afterwards (the bandit’s appropriating them for their informants, whilst keeping the loot from the caravans to themselves).

While usually the guards surrender upon seeing themselves outnumbered, this time there were as many of them as there were bandits—and so, they put up a fight. None of the guards survived, and from the blood trails leading into the woods, some of the bandits won’t live much longer, either. But the surviving raiders took their loot from the caravans, before they fled.

If the men before you now are allowed to live, they may cause more harm as catalysts to these attacks. After all, without them, the bandit’s rates of success drop significantly. However, these men have children and families on the edge of starvation, who rely on them for food, and they only turned to such desperate survival tactics after their jobs at the local lumber mill were lost, due to the deforestation turning the surrounding area into a desert…

One of your companions has died, but you will not give up on them. You’ve trawled ancient ruins and temples and have found sparse information talking about a place called Death’s Gate. the scriptures note that Death’s Gate is an inter-planer realm where souls go before being sent to the realms of the dead and how one could, theoretically retrieve souls from this location via a key that would open the gate.

And so you travel forth to these realms crossing the ethereal bridge, past the wailing cries of whose souls have already been damned and the ever watchful skeletal statues. When you arrive at Death’s Gate the endless void stands before you, it’s immense nothingness stretching out beyond your sight. You have traveled long to reach this destination, but your will now wavers.

The blade of the arch angel of death lies before you, pulsing dim etheric light. It is the key to open the door to death’s gate and to retrieve the soul of your lost companion. However to touch the key will draw the attention of the grave keepers.
