The reason our VTT maps are ungridded is because the VTT software drops a grid over them when you play 🙂

Scouts have returned to the village with foreboding news. During their last patrol along the forest road they came across a ravaged elven merchant’s cart, two bodies where found, one wearing fine silken clothes and the other studded leather. In each of their bodies the scouts found several crude arrows, perhaps even poisoned. Any jewelry they were wearing must have been taken as well as any edible goods the merchant may have been carrying on the cart, including all of the bottles of a highly addictive red liquid that didn’t get smashed.

Strangely enough however, many of the other goods were not taken, high quality silks and wooden carvings all remained by the cart. This has been an escalation in attacks made against the village of sommerset by what the guard believe to be a warren of goblins. The mayor stands resolute in the belief these dirty creatures would never attack the village but the village guard captain isn’t so sure. He’s enlisted your help to track down the warren and hopefully end them before they become more of an issue.

If you choose to go after the warren, you find it in a small cavern in the cliff side some miles away from the village. Multiple goblin bodies are lifeless on the floor and only one living goblin seem to be nuzzling at a glass bottle which contains a red liquid, it’s eyes completely bloodshot. When spotted you are attacked, while the goblin yells about you not taking it’s precious.

After dispatching this goblin, it dawns on you there are not nearly enough goblins here to have been causing so many problems for sommerset, so you set off toward the village. When you arrive it’s already to late, the village has come under attack by the rest of the warren of goblins and they’re flooding the streets and hunting through the homes of the elves.

What’s going on? After the goblins ambushed the last elven caravan they came across one of the elves favorite but highly addictive drinks, a red liquid that normally create a feeling of complete serenity. However due to differences in biology this drink seems to have make the goblins extra aggressive and in combination with it’s addictive properties caused them to turn on each other until it was all gone and the only place to get more was the elven town itself.

Glowing water swirls as it rushes pass, being deflected by large rocks within the river dragging the souls of the dead towards there final destination. On the other side of the stream a rocky ashland spans off into the distance.

An invasive species of animated shoe has shown up in this region and begun causing trouble. They harass villagers and travelers alike, nipping at their heels for subjugating others of their—non-animated—kind. It has grown so bad that the villagers have begun to stop wearing shoes, for fear of the little menaces.

Fed up with walking everywhere barefoot, the villagers have employed you to seek out the breeding grounds, and vanquish them. Everyone knows the shoes are shy, and will only multiply in dark, secluded places.

You track the shoes to an abandoned mine, where an old wizard lives in a shack built into its wall. There is a beautiful shoe—clearly the master of all shoes—on his head. He is dressed in filthy rags, with a long white beard and unkempt hair. Clearly, he’s been out here a while…

He runs at you with glassy eyes, yelling at you in gibberish and throwing cantrips as a warning.

What’s happening? The wizard who created the sentient shoes as an experiment found events spiraling out of hand quickly as the shoes began to multiply. Then came the master shoe, who jumped onto his head and has been mind-controlling him since.

If your players make a successful role for insight, they will realize he isn’t gibbering mindlessly, but rather, speaking the language of the shoes.

If you can separate him from the master shoe, perhaps he will regain his wits?

A gigantic skull sits central on a platform of ancient stone and moss, four paths span the chasms that surround this skull, one path however has broken over the ages and now a gap lies between. The dark and dreary forest blocks the light from above and produces a sickly smell of death.

Within the ancient skull lies three small altars, each with the skull of an animal of the woods. Around them candles flicker gently providing ambient light and in front of the altars lies a small hole used for sacrifices.

A local village has been attacked twice over the last few months by humanoid figures riding young dark colored dragons and thus have sought your help in tracking down the home base of these raiders and putting an end to there attacks.

A woodsman leads you to the area where he last spotted the large flying creatures before quickly shuffling off afterwards back towards town. Before you lies a large cliff and thin dirt path which leads to winding sets of staircases carved into the stone.

After much travel up the dark staircases you reach lit torches and soon after enter a small internal room with a central wooden table full of food and a map. Two men at the table look surprised to see you and quickly grab their crossbows, while a third figure kneeling at the altar grabs a spear.

They don’t attack immediately but will accuse you of being involved with a group called blackwing and having come to finish the job. If you manage to deescalate the conflict the dragonriders will explain that they are from a small clan from the far north, which was driven out of their lands by a new dragonrider clan using demonically empowered dragons.

This new blackwing clan appears to be the clan that has been attacking the local village for supplies while hunting down the remnants of the other dragonrider clans. The dragonriders have been fortifying this old hold in the understanding that the blackwing clan will never give up hunting them and intends on one final last stand.

Based on how you found these dragonriders the blackwing clan are expected to find them any day now, will you stand and fight with them? Or leave them to their fate?

But one day, he discovered his followers had been corrupted by the very evil forces they had sought to defeat. They betrayed him, sneaking up on him in the night and killing him with a cursed blade.

The Keeper gone, now nothing stands in the way of the growing darkness and the exposed planet below. That is, unless you can figure out how to activate the magical protection ring the Keeper had almost finished creating before he died.

This part of town has seen better days. The tavern which was built long ago now sits at the very edge of the cliff, warmth and the scent of freshly baked goods wafting from it’s windows. There is also an alchemists store, weapons store and a small library tended to by one of the towns monks.

The market place is alive with chatter as townsfolk greet each other and eat at the many stalls. Wooden planks criss-cross the old buildings roofs, stone pillars and small alleyways where shady deals are done.

After a night of heavy drinking at a tavern, you awaken almost naked in a cold, damp basement, iron bars blocking your escape from your tiny cell.

A pale man in exquisite clothing stands before you, a golden goblet in hand. To his left a smaller man is slowly pouring a dark red liquid into his goblet. The well dressed man takes a sip of the liquid and seems pleased.

He addresses you when he finally notices you’re awake, slowly sipping his dark red drink. He complements you on your very exquisite flavor, suggesting that you’ll be a tavern favorite for years to come as his smirk grows, small fangs becoming apparent. Soon after this he proceeds to leave the room, returning up stairs to tend to the other guests, leaving you with the smaller man.

If you engage the smaller man, he is condescending and refers to you as if you’re nothing but cattle.

The next day you’re feed some stew. Which If you eat it, may cause you to pass out, at which point you’re dragged out by the smaller man to have some of your blood drained before being put back in your cell. If you refuse to eat, he encourages you and failing that, he leaves you to yourself with the understanding that you must eat eventually.

After a few days of not eating, the small man may become aggravated at you, lashing out physically with his backhand through the bars, complaining that if you die the master will be incredibly mad with him.

What’s going on? After the night at the city’s tavern you were poisoned and sold to the vampire lord whom owns this exclusive lodge. He intends to bleed you daily to cater for his vampire clients, but you may be able to escape.

While all the real wizards—er, myself excluded, someone had to watch the acolytes—were away at a conference, one of our students forgot to close the seaside portal before the annual migration. Now our hallways are positively swarming with giant crabs! And, to make matters worse, they seem to have—rather unfortunately—figured out how to use the other portals!

Those damn crabs are causing quite a bit of havoc to the connected towns, if I might say so! Oh, no don’t you worry about them, though. The guards there are more than capable of dispatching the supersized crustaceans. Hah! They’ll be eating crab for weeks! Ah, what was I saying?

Oh, yes! We need you to clear our Academy of the cantankerous creatures! In return, you’ll be able to use our portals whenever you wish in future, and you’ll also be able to keep all the crabs you dispatch.
